Gloucester Park
A 7 acre lake set in a superb 250 acre park owned by Basildon District Council.
This water has been managed under licence by Mick Toomer since 1993 and since then has been transformed from a "run of the mill park lake" to a top class fishery with a reputation of being a top day ticket fishery.
With a 2 acre island, the lake also has neatly kept grass banks, rushes, reeds and Iris's, plus a wealth of overhanging willows.
On the north side of the island the bank is undercut below the water is particularly attractive to the chub and the carp.
Although there are no numbered swims the lake will comfortably accommodate over sixty anglers allowing a good mixed bag from anywhere around the lake
during the warmer months.
Its slightly different in the winter when the tench became less active, and the fish desert the shallower canal stretch to drop back into the deeper water along the cockle bank.
Determined to be known a "true mixed fishery" some £40,000 has been spent on stock, which now include Tench to 5lb, Bream 10lb, Roach 1½, Chub 3lb, Crucians 3lb, Carp 22lb.
Other species that can be found are, Rudd, Perch, Grass carp, Eels, Gudgeon and even Barbel, Zander, Pike.
Rules :
Mick believes that a long list of rules just makes life unnecessarily difficult for responsible anglers, whilst the idiots would ignore them anyway.
So he opereates a different system, with a zero tolerance attitude to anti-social behaviour.
Obviously guns, fires, and vehicles are not allowed, but otherwise he just ask's anglers to use their sense.

Directions :
From the M25 take the A127 towards Southend.
After passing The Fortune Public House, (formerly The Fortune Of War), and
the now redundant Fortune roundabout, take the next major slip road, the
A176. The slip road curls to the left in a horseshoe, with a roundabout at
the end of it. At the roundabout take the A176 left towards Basildon. You
will go under the A127 and then meet another roundabout as you come out the
other side. Go straight over this roundabout. As you
approach the next roundabout you will see a new office building and an
ornamental lake on your right hand side. At this roundabout you have two
options.
To get to the Northern Car Park turn left into Cranes Farm Road,
(A1235). After a hundred yards or so you will go through a set of traffic
lights, and shortly after you will see the Car Park on your right. As you
are on a dual carriageway you have to go past and carry on to the next
roundabout, before coming back on yourself and turning left into the Car
Park.
To get to the Southern Car Park go straight across the roundabout on
the junction of the A176 and A1235, and carry on towards Basildon. At the
next roundabout turn left into Broadmayne, (A1321), and almost immediately
left into the access road for Gloucester Park Swimming Pool and the Park.
(From the road you may catch a glimpse of the Gloucester Park Boating Pool
in front of the swimming pool). Drive past the swimming pool to the Car Park
behind it. For complimentary parking tickets turn left behind the swimming
pool. To find the Park Offices walk through the barrier gate, and the
offices are to the right.
