Lake Meadows
Set in a superb 30 acre Victorian park a stones throw away from Billericay high street.
This 5 acre water is under Basildon District Council control but managed by Mick Toomer.
Previuosly this was predominantly a Carp venue but in recent years more than a ton and a half of bream, roach, perch, chub and barbel have been
introduced.
The Carp go to weights of 24lb+ while Bream go to about 3lb. Pike are also present but very rarely fishing for.
The small numbers of Perch, Tench, Gudgeon, Chub and Barbel dont really make them a good specific target.
The target species seem to be Roach and Bream, with the silver fish producing quality double figure bags for pole, tip and waggler anglers.
Boilies are without doubt the most productive carp bait, but also dog biscuits or bread work well when the fish are on the top. With the fairly shallow depths the carp don't like swimming into tight
lines, and so back leading is is a common approach.
The best catches of bream are normally taken by quivertip anglers, with sweetcorn and luncheon meat in summer and pinkies, maggots or casters during the winter.
Facilities include a cafe, toilets and car park
Rules :
Lake Meadows do not tolerate anti-social behaviour, and of course the park has the usual park byelaws.
However they have very few rules to inconvenience responsible anglers.
Obviously guns, fires, and vehicles are not allowed, but otherwise just ask anglers to use their sense.
