Thorney Weir - The Mets

The Met Lakes, as the fishery became known, had been out of public hands for over 30 years... until now!

Three lakes, a mile and a quarter of the River Colne, plus the Colnbrook River, in around 78 acres of Buckinghamshire countryside. Carp, tench and bream in the lakes, and assorted bags of carp, chub, roach, bream, barbel and dace on the rivers.

Met Lake :

This is the specimen lake and truely a carp anglers paradise that covers some 15 acres in peaceful surroundings, with lots of islands and secluded bays filled with lilies, rushes and many overhanging trees.
Whilst locating your preferred swim you will notice the many good view points from the high ground that will enable you to locate the fish.
Last year there was a stocking of 132 Mark Simmons carp between 8 and 14 lbs, with some already coming out at 21lbs.
The Met Lake is a members only water

Thorney Weir Lake :

Thorny Weir is the biggest day ticket water with 14 acres of tree lined banks with large and small islands to fish to.
Entering the complex you drive a part known as the channel, this is where the carp, tench and bream tend to get into and many a good fish has come out of this section.
Entering the car park there are a number of swims (Road Bank) that will give you a good view point of the main section of the lake.
Thorny Weir contains a very large head of Bronze Bream upto 14lb, Tench to double figures and Roach over 2lb.
For the Carp anglers Thorny Weir already had a good stock of carp with the original fish being upto 40lbs.
In addition the water was recently stocked with over 150 double-figure carp consisting of Mirrors from 8lb to 27+lb, a 40lb Mirror (Chubbers 40, published in Carp Talk, May 2000), Commons from 8lb to 29lb, Linears from 20lb to 29 and a half lb, and Ghosts from 19lb to 30lb.
These were kept in the stock ponds for at least four and a half years.

The Colne River :

When you walk down from the car park along side Thorny Weir, you come to the river bank. This is the widest stretch with swims made for you to relax in. Along this stretch is where you stand a very good chance of Big Bream to 13lbs and Carp to 20lbs. As you move down river it becomes narrower and faster with good reed beds for the Barble to 12lbs and Chub to 9lbs, plus there are Big Roach, Dace and even Big Minnows.
